Mason's brother spends his birthday reflecting on his life choices in this dark tale of sex, intrigue and facing the hard reality of the Standstill. We resume the story with Mason and Luna, who got engaged the night before the standstill and went to be as happy as ever. Mason woke up like any other day, but Luna did not. Since then, he has been using his medical training to keep her alive as they travel from New York to Oregon. Dottie is a rockabilly lounge singer who woke up in a Phoenix hotel next to the woman she slept with the night before. Only now, that woman is not moving, and neither is anyone else in the hotel.
